The Sümeg Castle is one of the most beautiful fortresses of the country in a relatively preserved state that is located on a lonely peak amidst the Balaton-Highlands’ neighbouring scenery on the western side.
The core of the tripartite fortress was built in the 1260’s as the old tower’s base level. The walls of the citadel were made a century later, surrounded by the strong protective layer of walls made in front of the highlands in the 15th Century.
The famous castle’s Historical Eventhall is serving as the location for the Historical Tournament in the Castle’s front at the Historical Eventpark providing a medieval-like mood for the visitors. Read more about the programs on the website of the castle.
As one of the locations for the National Castle Program, starting from 2020 renovations are taking place as the Eastern wing, the Csabi-tower and the connecting corridor gets rebuilt. The exhibitions of the castles are also getting renewed and expended.
